Zucchini Casserole

6 c zucchini, peeled, seeds scooped out, cubed
1/4 c chopped onion
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup sour cream
1 cup shredded sharp cheese
1 cube of butter or margarine (to use with stuffing)
1 8oz package of herb seasoned stuffing mix

Boil zucchini and onion in water for 5 minutes. Drain well. In a bowl, combine soup, sour cream and cheese. Add zucchini and onions and mix well. In a bowl, melt butter and stir in stuffing mix. Put 1/2 crumb mixture in bottom of dish. Pour zucchini mixture into the dish and top with remaining crumb mixture.

Bake 350 for 1/2 hour, uncovered.

*can add shredded chicken too.

These are some of the many beans (we picked maybe 1/3 of what is out there tonight)

The way the stand works, for those who weren’t around last year, is that you take what you want and add to the box extras you have from your own garden that you wont’ be using. When you go picking out at the neighborhood garden and you pick more than you need just leave the extra in the box for others.  Please do not give away garden produce that your family will be using or storing.  This is just the extra stuff and anyone is welcome to the produce that is in this box…..Help yourself!

Neighborhood Garden Update

The Stake has begun to water…

…water days are Wednesdays

Expect the ground to be very wet and slippery Wednesdays and Thursdays

Another job that we need to start doing is weeding

The Greenbriar Ward and several other wards have their rows very neat and tidy, weed free for the most part.  Thus a silent competition has begun and we need to make our garden areas exceptionally well kept.

We will start with the corn rows which are south of the big, brick shed; we have 3 rows marked with a green steel post which has a paper on it that says “Angel Crossing 2.”  All 3 rows need to be weeded (they are very long rows).  The row that has the post is a walking row and the other two rows have corn planted in them.  The corn has not germinated yet so you won’t have to worry about weeding out the corn.

PLEASE, please don’t feel you have to be out there for a long period of time or that you have to do an entire row or section.  Do what you can and leave the rest to other people in our neighborhood, this is everyone’s garden project

WOW…this year’s garden is already AMAZING

There are:

 POTATOES

TOMATOES

BEANS

CORN

Out in the garden…

…and the

PUMPKINS

are growing stronger every day and will go out to the garden soon

Everyone has been so helpful and made this workout so smoothly

The next objective will be weeding (TBA)

We have two areas this year each is marked with a big green post

The first is south of the retaining pond and the very furthest rows on the west side (Angel Crossing)

The second is south of the big brick shed (Angel Crossing2)

I will go out later this week and clearly mark where everything is

ESPECIALLY WHERE THE WALKING PATHS ARE

The tomato plants are very hard to see right now

The beans are just starting to break through the dirt

Please, if you go out to the garden…

…NO don’t go out in the garden

There will be a lot of digging again from the rows to the water pipe

So bring your shovels

We have some bean seed to plant but the logistics for that still needs to be discussed

The pumpkin seeds have not sprouted so we will not be planting them in the garden yet

The Hancey’s thought it would be fun to bring some grills out to the garden and everyone could bring some hot dogs and buns, we would provide the condiments, and we could grill up some food and fun

5:30ish we will be planting the

POTATOES

CARROTS

We are in a different part of the garden.  Our plot is the furthest west section.  There is a road that wraps around the south end, past the shed to the west.  Our marker is there and our plot goes west from it.  You are welcome to go and take a look any time.  We have been given 9 half rows and I think that will suit our needs.  I purchased the tomatoes yesterday (only 5 flats instead of 11 flats, LOL) and I pick up the potatoes tomorrow.  I will plant the pumpkins here at my home in the next few days to get them going before we plant them.  We will be planting beans this year also.

I can’t wait to see your there!!

Angel Crossing Neighborhood Spring Garden Tour

May 1^st, 2010

The Angel Crossing Neighborhood Spring Garden Tour is coming up really fast May 1, 2010.  There will be an emergency preparedness fair held in conjunction with the tour this year.  There will, again, be presentations done by knowledgeable people on things like lawn care, water wise watering techniques, home storage containers, lots and lots of gardening tips, and so much more.  There will be information and people there to explain how, in our own neighborhood, there is a plan already set up and in place in case of an emergency.

You will have an opportunity to sign up to share garden tillers, trailers (to go to the dump or pick up stuff from the store), anything that would help you get your own garden in the ground.

If you are still in need of, or you just want more, you can sign up  to purchase 55 gal water barrels.

Angel Crossing Neighborhood Garden Project

President Monson has expressed a desire for a portion of the Church’s Welfare Farms, all over the world, to be utilized as a garden plot for members to participate in raising vegetables.  Our Stake Presidencies feel this is a great opportunity and a blessing.  There is a great sense of urgency to participate in this project as an entire neighborhood.  The leaders of our stake have reminded us that it is planting season right now and that we need to get our crops in the ground NOW.  So:
