OK-I'll be the first to comment. I have two ideas that work really well. 1)An alternative to Lysol wipes or deep scuba diving gear to clean your bathroom. I keep a spray bottle of bleach (1.00 at Wal-mart) or other cleaner and a roll of paper towels handy (higher than kids can reach cause I've had my baby suck on the Lysol wipes I kept under the sink). I can wipe a bathroom down and throw everything away and it's cheaper and lasts longer than the Lysol wipes! 2)I keep an ice cream bucket on top of my dryer for all the stuff that comes through in pockets or that I find around the house and need a place to put it until later. Once in a while I dump it out, put stuff away and the kids love to find their little treasures!
ReplyDeleteI have to do a quick 10 minute sweep of my house before going to bed. I put things away, load the dishes, straighten the toys, so that I can wake up to a fresh straight house. It makes for a much better start to my day!
ReplyDeleteIf you are like me you tend to clean the house all at the same time because you find something in one room and then run it to where it belongs and then start cleaning in that room until you find something that goes somewhere else and.....you get the picture. Anyway, there are a couple of methods that I learned in a seminar done at my old ward RS that REALLY help. The first is to get an empty basket, box, or whatever and keep it close by when you are cleaning a room. Then when you find something that belongs elsewhere, put it in the basket and when you are done and move on you take the basket with you. The second is kind of like Allie's--take 5 minutes per room per night to tidy up. The third is to set up a cleaning schedule. For example, I do bathrooms on Monday, all floors on Tues., kitchen on Wed., living/sitting room on Thurs., and bedrooms on Friday. This is when I do the dusting and other cleaning that doesn't fall into the 5-minute clean up every night.
ReplyDeleteA mother of 10 once told me that the whole secret to staying sane was to always make dinner first thing in the morning. I don't do it quite that early, but it is very frequently the first thing I do once my kids have gone to school. I put something in the crockpot, or make a casserole and put it in the fridge, or do all the prep work for a skillet meal. Once the kids are out of school, we are in a constant hubub, so it is really nice to be able to just take the casserole from the fridge and put it in the oven, serve straight from the crockpot, or do the skillet meal as quick as I can (or have one of my kids do it!). Honestly, I don't know if we would eat most days if I didn't do it this way. In my pre-maternal existence, when I was working full-time, I used to make dinner for the next day right after we ate dinner that night. It made it so nice to come home and have something all ready to go.
